Backside of Utah Lake

Drove to the west side of Utah Lake expecting at best a flock of sunflowers, at worst desolation.  Found instead Utah's largest family owned dairy, Bateman's Mosida Farms.
Literally miles of planted corn.

It sits off the highway in the distance like a secret government installation in a black and white movie from the fifties, the buildings gleaming industrial silver out there on the plains
But 7,000 cows are milked daily, 25 calves are born everyday in a special calf barn that cuts calf mortality to half the national average.
Run by dad Wayne Bateman and his four sons, it's been in the family for 150 years. Recognized by the Innovation Center for U. S. this year with a U. S. Dairy Sustainability Award, the first Utah farm to be so recognized.
So barren but full of life.  I want to go take one of their free tours!  Talk to their wives and see who they talk to on a daily basis.  These are the women who advertise on the website for farmers looking for a hearty farm girl.
